Jos Buttler and Phil Salt are at the crease for England as they pursue a target of 172 in Guyana. Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah of India have the bowling attack up.
History
India and England’s cricket rivalry is one of the fiercest rivalries in international cricket, having met on 252 occasions across all formats of play and producing some truly captivating matches.
On June 27 at Providence Stadium in Guyana, both teams will square off in a T20 World Cup semifinal clash that promises to provide thrilling entertainment to fans around the globe. This closely-contested contest promises to keep viewers riveted throughout.
In 1984, India and Pakistan first met for their inaugural Test match and it took place amid rising political unrest following Indira Gandhi’s assassination and subsequent murder of British High Commissioner. India won easily, thanks to centuries scored by Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, and Sourav Ganguly – giving their side an easy victory.
Over the following years, England would prove an arduous opponent for India. They drew three Tests each before India won two outright; England skipper Tony Greig led his side to victory and took out the five-match series 2-1.
England and India have met 107 times in one-day internationals (ODIs), with England holding the slight edge over India by winning 50 out of those games while India has secured victory on 31 occasions.
Highlights
England struggled against India’s spinners during their second innings. Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali played reckless reverse sweeps that were punished by Kuldeep Yadav with deliveries that kept low and swung into them, keeping low scores low and forcing England into early innings wins.
Indian bowlers dominated this match and can take great satisfaction from their efforts in Hyderabad. Jasprit Bumrah led by example with some outstanding bowling, while Chris Jordan, Jofra Archer Sam Curran and Adil Rashid all contributed wickets as well.
Rohit Sharma and SKY start their chase on an extremely difficult wicket, taking an early single before reaching his fifty off only 59 balls! He later hit two boundary shots off Axar Patel on his way to a double century.
Jofra Archer will look to add to his score when facing Jo Livingstone in the last over. A full toss and Livingstone swats it past short fine leg for FOUR! Axar Patel returns for one final over of the day; two dot balls were delivered but when pushing for single hit him on pads (there was an appeal, but umpire didn’t care) which resulted in runout! A miscommunication occurred between Archer and Livingstone which resulted in their not understanding why their counterpart is running away. RUN OUT! Archer was unaware as Livingstone kept leaving his crease while livingstone continued batting despite this miscommunication; leaving Livingstone completely unaware as to why their counterpart keeps leaving his crease!
Tributes
Not many athletes get to write and time their exit script with such precision; but India’s Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma did just that with their T20I careers coming to a successful close. Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, two renowned cricketing figures, offered their congratulations on becoming part of a team which won three ICC trophy titles together.
India won the third T20 International by 24 runs in Providence, Guyana. Pakistan supporters filled the stadium but that did not discourage Indian players who refused to let chanting drown out their cheers and instead decided to pay tribute to CRPF martyrs by donating match fees directly to Nation’s Defence Fund.
The Indian team donned black armbands as a mark of respect to legendary spinner Bishan Singh Bedi who passed away on October 23. The BCCI released a statement verifying this gesture by the Indian team.
This match was an entertaining one with both teams playing some excellent cricket – especially from India’s bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya. Jos Buttler acknowledged that his side were outplayed, saying they could have scored 20 more runs with more calculated approach.
