5. India:
India are at the fifth spot in the list. In the 2023 World Cup, India scored 410/4 in the allotted 50 overs against Netherlands. Batting first, India were off to a great start thanks to fifties from captain Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli.
Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul then hit brilliant centuries to take India to the huge total. Iyer scored an unbeaten 128 runs from 94 balls while Rahul was out for 102 runs from just 64 balls. In reply, Netherlands were all out for 250 runs.
4. South Africa:
South Africa are occupying the fourth spot in the list for scoring 411/4 against Ireland in 2015 ODI World Cup. Batting first, the Proteas were off to a poor start as Quinton de Kock was out for just 1. However, it was not an early indication of the things that were to follow.
Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis scored impressive tons to not only steady the ship but put South Africa in the driver’s seat for the remainder of the game. Amla scored 159 while du Plessis scored 109 as the duo shared a 247-run stand for the second wicket.
David Miller (46* off 23) and Rilee Rossouw (61* off 30) then helped South Africa finish the innings strongly. The AB de Villiers-led side went on to win the game by 201 runs as they bowled out Ireland for 210.
3. India:
At number three in this list are India for scoring 413/5 against Bermuda in the 2007 World Cup. After suffering a shock loss at the hands of Bangladesh in their opening game, India needed a good response to get their campaign on track and they responded in style. Team India touched the 400-run mark in the ODIs for the very first time.
Robin Uthappa was out for just 3 runs before Virender Sehwag and Sourav Ganguly shared a 202-run stand for the second wicket to lay the bedrock for the huge total. Sehwag scored 114 runs while Ganguly scored 89. After their departure, Yuvraj Singh scored 83 runs off just 46 balls while Sachin Tendulkar hit 57 from 29 balls to take India to 413.
In reply, Bermuda were bowled out for 156 runs. David Hemp top-scored for his side, scoring an unbeaten 76. For India, Ajit Agarkar and Anil Kumble picked up 3 wickets each.
2. Australia:
Australia are at the second spot in the list for scoring 417/6 against Afghanistan in Perth during 2015 World Cup. Afghanistan’s decision to bowl first completely backfired as Australia’s batters took their bowlers to the cleaners.
After Aaron Finch fell for just 4 runs, David Warner and Steve Smith shared a huge 260-run stand for the second wicket. The partnership ended with Warner’s dismissal. The former Australia opener departed after smashing 178 runs from 133 balls. Smith, on the other hand, scored 95 runs before being dismissed in the 43rd over.
Glenn Maxwell then provided the finishing touches, scoring 88 runs from just 39 balls as Australia posted the highest-ever team total in the ODI World Cup at that time. Chasing 418 runs, Afghanistan were bowled out for just 142 runs to suffer a huge 275-run loss.
1. South Africa:
South Africa hold the record for the highest-ever team total in an ODI World Cup game. They created the record in the 2023 World Cup when they smashed 428/5 against Sri Lanka in Delhi.
Asked to bat first, South Africa lost the wicket of their captain Temba Bavuma cheaply before a big stand of 204 runs between Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen laid the foundation for the huge total. Aiden Markram then hit 106 runs off just 54 balls to take South Africa to the huge total. In reply, Sri Lanka came up with a good effort but eventually fell short by 102 runs as they were bowled out for 326 runs in the 45th over. For latest cricket news and more of such information on the performances of the players or teams, you can visit Cricket Addictor.
