(A) How to Untangle a Synthetic Wig
In this section, we will explain how to untangle a synthetic wig in a step-by-step manner.
(i) Place the Wig on a Stable Platform:
The wig needs to be combed to untangle, oftentimes quite forcefully. Therefore, it is necessary to place it in a stable and solid platform. A wig stand or a styling head can be used for this purpose. Try to find a tall platform that allows the hair to hang freely.
(ii) Make Smaller Sections of Hair
Form small sections of hair and hold them in place with the help of clips. Depending on the thickness of the wig, you will need to make multiple sections. This step is done to allow you to focus on a smaller section at a time.
(iii) Apply Synthetic Wig Detangler on the Wig
Synthetic wig detanglers are mostly available in spraying bottles to make the process of applying a bit easier. Generously spray the wig sections with a detangler. Spray more in the areas that have more knots.
If you do not have a detangler spray, you can make one by mixing 3 parts water and 1 part fabric softener that is specifically made for wigs.
(iv) Untangle the Large Knots
Remove the clip from one of the sections that you made in step (ii). After that, loosen the large knots with your fingers without applying excessive force. The wig will be untangled one section at a time.
(v) Use a Wide-toothed Comb
Start this process from the bottom of the hair. Firmly hold the hair just above the area you plan to comb with one hand and comb with the other. If the hair is very tangled, do it in smaller sections.
(vi) Clean and Apply Conditioner on the Wig
Fill a container with water and a little bit of synthetic wig shampoo on it. Submerge the wig in the mixture for a few minutes and swirl it around. Take the wig out of the container and place it in a container of clean water to remove the shampoo.
Make sure to use cold water for this step. The same process should be repeated for the conditioner.
(vii) Towel-dry the Wig
Gently dry the wig with a towel. Do not wring the wig, instead blot it with minimum force.

Remove the clip from one of the sections and untangle the large knots with your fingers.
(iv) Spray With a Mixture of Conditioner and Water
Mix 3 parts of water with 1 part of the human hair wig conditioner. Apply this solution throughout the wig.
(v) Comb the Wig
Firmly hold a section of hair, and start combing below it. This combing should be started at the bottom and the comb used should be wide-toothed.
You should slowly work your way up. Feel free to add more conditioner if necessary.
(vi) Wash and Condition the Wig
Mix a human wig, hair conditioner, and water in a container. Soak the wig in the mixture and swirl it around. After this, rinse the wig and repeat the procedure with conditioner.
(vii) Dry the Wig
Gently dry the wig with a clean and dry towel.
How to Keep the Wigs from Tangling
To maintain the quality of the wigs you need to properly care for them. A few points that you can follow to make your wig last longer are as follows:
Do not sleep while having the wig. Sleeping with the wig on will cause rubbing and tangles.
When you are not using the wig, try to store it in the packaging it came in.
Do not excessively heat the wig. Any excessive heat will reduce the quality of synthetic wigs and make human hair wigs more prone to tangling.
A general good rule is to wash the wig after 21 uses. This way, the tangles will be untangled more often, and more stubborn knots will not be formed.
