The search and find feature lets you see/locate anything in your company files. The search feature helps you locate all the transaction activities and list items similar to your search. The find feature lets you access any specific transaction that you want to access and gives you similar results for the transactions only. In this guide, we will talk about how to use the feature of find and search in QuickBooks so that you can get the needed information instantly. 

How to Search for All Data

In this segment, we will particularly talk about the search feature of QuickBooks. Here’s how to utilize it:

  • Firstly, select the Edit option.
  • Then, you will get the Find option. Select it. 
  • Access the Search window.
  • Now, you can enter the transaction or anything you want to access in the Search box. 
  • Note: QuickBooks searches and shows all results across various sections of your company file.
  • Now. go to the left panel.
  •  See the search results.
  • To narrow down your search, click the Filter icon and modify the settings to refine the results and locate the data you need. 
  • To save your search, click Save current results. Then, go to Saved Searches to run the same search again.
  • Double-click on the search result to navigate to the original transaction, 

Note: Sometimes, you may face the issue of QuickBooks desktop search not working due to an outdated QB version or damaged/corrupted QuickBooks search index file. 

How to Find Transactions

Find transactions utilizing search criteria:

  • Note: If you are currently in the Search window, you can switch to the Find window by selecting Go to Find.
  • Select Edit, then choose Find.
  • Access the Search window.
  • Click Go to Find.
  • In the Find window, go to the Filter column and select the type of information you’re looking for. Note: You can apply multiple filters to narrow down the search and locate the specific transaction.
  • Enter your search criteria into the fields next to the filter type.
  • Click Options to apply additional report filters and further refine the search.
  • Click Find.
  • Select the transaction you wish to view from the search results.
  • Click Go To.
  • To print a report of the transactions found by QuickBooks, click Report. When the report appears, select Print.

Find transactions using record numbers:

You can also use Find to locate transactions with errors by entering the record number from the QuickBooks.log file.
