What Inspired You to Write This Book
I’ve always loved books. As a child, my favorite pastime was raiding my parents’ bookcases and spending hours curled up with a good story. So it’s no surprise that I grew up to be a writer.
But what did inspire me to write this particular book? A few things, actually.
First, I wanted to write a book for young adults that would deal with some of the big issues they face today: identity, belonging, love, loss, and so on.
But I didn’t want it to be heavy-handed or didactic; I wanted it to be entertaining first and foremost. Second, as someone who came out as gay in my twenties, I wanted to write about what it was like for me coming to terms with my sexuality and how hard it can be to find your place in the world when you feel like you don’t fit in anywhere. And finally, I just really wanted to tell a good story!
So that’s what inspired me to write this book. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

One of the challenges I faced while writing this book was making sure that the information I included was accurate.
