Victoria Ellen Rothschild was born on December 21, 1966, in New York City. She is the daughter of Phyllis (née Freeman), a homemaker, and Edgar Milton Rothschild, Jr., an investment banker. Victoria has two older sisters: Amanda and Serena.

She attended the Spence School in Manhattan and graduated from Harvard University in 1988 with a degree in art history. Victoria married James Amsler in 1992; they have three children: twins Isabella and Alexandra (born 1996), and Benjamin (born 1999).

He was a member of the famous banking family and had a wide range of interests, from biology to economics. During the war, he worked for both the British government and intelligence services, using his expertise in science and finance to help Britain win the conflict.

After the war, he returned to his work in banking and also became involved in politics, serving as an MP for the Labour Party. He died in 1990.
