Tortillas Atotonilco is a family-owned and operated tortilla factory located in Atotonilco el Alto, Jalisco, Mexico. We use the traditional methods of stone grinding and hand pressing to make our tortillas. Our mission is to provide our customers with the freshest and highest quality tortillas possible.

In addition to our regular line of tortillas, we also offer a variety of specialty items such as gluten-free tortillas, vegan tortillas, and whole wheat tortillas. In the early hours of Good Friday morning, a woman in Mexico City was on her way to church when she heard the sound of a baby crying. When she followed the sound, she found an infant lying on the ground, abandoned and alone. The woman took pity on the child and decided to take him home with her and care for him as her own.

That child was named Juan Diego and he would go on to become one of the most important figures in Mexican history. In 1531, Juan Diego had a series of visions from the Virgin Mary, who asked him to build a church in her honor on Tepeyac Hill. Though he initially met with skepticism and disbelief, Juan Diego persisted and eventually convinced Bishop Juan de Zumarraga to see the proof of his visions: an image of the Virgin Mary imprinted on his cloak.

The church that was built following these events is now known as El Milagro (The Miracle) and it remains an important site of pilgrimage for Catholics from all over Latin America. Every year on December 12th, Mexicans celebrate el Día de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, which commemorates both Juan Diego’s vision and Mexico’s patron saint. For many Mexicans, La Virgen de Guadalupe is a symbol of hope and pride; she represents a country that is deeply religious but also fiercely independent.
